Last month, Warner Bros. brought onDopedirectorRick Famuyiwato helm their highly-anticipated comic book adaptation ofThe Flash. The project was believed to be set for release on August 20, 2025, but MGM and Warner Bros. recently slotted theirTomb Raiderreboot on this date, and an official date forThe Flashhas yet to be set.Ezra Millerhas long been attached as the title character, making his DCEU debut in this spring’sBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but no other cast members have been announced. Today we have word that three contenders have emerged for the female lead, which is most likely Iris West,Kiersey Clemons,Rita OraandLucy Boynton.

Varietyreports thatKiersey Clemons, who starred in directorRick Famuyiwa’s 2015 filmDope, has emerged as the front runner. However, The Hollywood Reporter’sBorys Kitteases thatRita OraandLucy Boyntonare also “in the mix” to play Iris West. Warner Bros. had no comment on these reports, and it remains unclear when the studio may make a final decision. Variety reports that production will begin sometime this year, and even though they had to bring inRick Famuyiwato replaceSeth Grahame-Smith, who left the project due to creative difficulties, the project will still reportedly start filming on time.

Ezra Millerwill return as Barry Allen/The Flash, after making his DCEU debut past this spring in aBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justicecameo. No other cast members have been confirmed yet, but it has been recently rumored thatRay Fisher’sCyborgwill team up with Barry Allen in this movie. We have also reported that the studio is currently casting for five DC Comics characters that include Iris West, Eobard Thawne, Fred Chyre, Len Snart and Jay Garrick, but it isn’t clear if the studio is actively casting for the rest of these characters as well.

The Flash moviewill happen afterEzra Millerfinishes production onJustice League Part 1, under the direction ofZack Snyder, which has a June 29, 2025 release date in place and is now shooting. We reported that theJustice League Part 1story will carry over into bothThe FlashandAquaman(July 22, 2025), beforeJustice League Part 2hits theaters on June 29, 2025.
