Joe Cornish made his directorial debut withAttack the Blockway back in 2011. Under the tutelage of acclaimed director Edgar Wright, the two set out to createAnt-Manfor Marvel, collaborating on the screenplay. That project fell apart, with Wright disbanding as director and Cornish’s screenplay being turned over to various other parties. It took seven years before Cornish was behind the camera again, for his second feature filmThe Kid Who Would Be King. In the meantime he did appear uncredited as a Resistance Trooper in Disney’sThe Last Jedi. He also kicked around the idea of either directingStar Trek 3orMasters of the Universe, both movies which he ultimately passed up.

The Kid Who Would Be Kingputs a magical twist on the classicA Kid in King Arthur’s Court, which itself is a spin onA Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Courtfrom Mark Twain. Those versions had a person from the present transported toancient Camelot. This new movie brings the legend to modern day, and it looks like a lot of fun.
