After waiting patiently for five years, 2025 will be the year that finally sees theNetflixaction sequelThe Old Guard 2released. With a release date now revealed, director Victoria Mahoney has now teased “bigger and bolder” action in the long-awaited follow-up. Which, considering fans have been left waiting so long, is the least that it should deliver.
“My mandate every time we went out the door to scout was; I do not want to visit any locations, routinely seen as an audience member in a number of my favorite films. I relentlessly pushed toward the unexpected.”
As well as building on the action of the first movie,The Old Guard 2will also build on the characters and story, with Mahoney explaining how the pandemic helped strengthen her passion forAndy and her band of immortal warriors.
“During the pandemic, there were a couple of projects I found myself watching and rewatching for a number of reasons, and The Old Guard was one of them. There was this beautiful array of characters that had a global sense of appeal with this fusion of drama and action. I couldn’t believe this caliber of actors in one bundle, I wanted desperately to explore their ability to chase story beats inside of action beats."

Following the release ofour first lookatThe Old Guard 2,Netflixhas revealed that the action sequel will indeed pick up following the first outing’s cliffhanger ending, which sees a figure from Andy’s (Charlize Theron) past return and seeking retribution. “Andy and her team of immortal warriors return to protect humanity from a formidable new enemy who threatens their existence,” the report from the streamer reads. “After Booker (Matthias Schoenaerts) betrays the group, he gets exiled for a century — only to find the long-lost Quynh (Veronica Ngô) lurking in his apartment. What does she want?”

It may have been five years since the release of ‘The Old Guard,’ but don’t give up hope on a sequel yet.
Based on the graphic novel by writer Greg Rucka,The Old Guardwas released on Netflix in 2020 and follows a group of mercenaries who happen to be centuries-old immortals with the ability to heal themselves. The first outing centers on the group as they discover that someone has discovered their secret, forcing them to fight to protect their freedom.
