Frank Castle will be getting back to work very soon, asThe Punisherseason 2 release date has been revealed. Jon Bernthal made his debut as the fan-favorite Marvel Comics anti-hero inDaredevilseason 2, which prompted Netflix to give the character his very own show. Now, the streaming service has given us all a little gift heading into the new year, as we finally know when Bernthal will be back to do what he does best. We’ve also got a new teaser that shows Mr. Castle won’t be messing around this season.

First off, the release date. Two different internationalNetflixTwitter accounts revealed the release date forThe Punisherseason 2 to be Friday, January 18. Those tweets have since been deleted, but the cat is very much out of the bag. Something similar happened withDaredevilseason 3 before Netflix confirmed the date. The fact that they were so quick to delete the tweets only provides further evidence that we’ll be seeing Frank Castle back in less than three weeks. So very good news for Marvel fans there.

As for the new teaser, we don’t see anyactual footage of Frank in action. Instead, we see him literally torching a presidential pardon letter, which results in a pile of ash taking the shape of the character’s trademark skull. With any luck, we’ll be getting an actual full-length trailer sooner rather than later, since season 2 is set to drop so soon. What we know for sure is thatThe Punisherwill be going up against what has been described as a hardcore alt-right Christian fundamentalist villain this season, which could make things pretty interesting.

Another thing we know, with almost 100 percent certainty, is that this will probably be the last we see ofThe Punisheron screen for quite some time. Netflix swiftly canceledIron Fist,Luke Cageand, most surprisingly,Daredevil, after their most recent seasons debuted. With that, it’s highly expected that the company will do the same forThe Punisherafter it debuts, leaving onlyJessica Joneson theirroster of Marvel shows.Jessica Jonesseason 3 is also expected to debut this year and, similarly, it’s highly expected that the series will be given the ax shortly after its new season drops. And with that, the Netflix era of Marvel will come to a close.

JoiningJon Bernthalthis season in the cast will be Ben Barnes, Amber Rose Revah, Jason R. Moore, Josh Stewart, Floriana Lima, and Giorgia Whigham. It was also recently revealed that Deborah Ann Woll will reprise her role as Karen Page fromDaredevilon the series this season, which should help ease the sting a bit for fans of that series. We’ll be sure to keep you posted as any new details onThe Punisherseason 2, such as the full-length trailer, are made available.
