Prime Video’sThe Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Powerbrings to screens for the very first timethe heroic legends of the fabled Second Age of Middle-earth’s history. This epic drama will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.

Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil on Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Powerwill feature a huge ensemble cast led byMorfydd Clarkas younger, brasher, more action-oriented version of the elf queen Galadriel. The Rings of PowerWill Be Deeply Rooted in the World of Tolkien
While many have already taken aim and umbrage withThe Rings of Powerand its approach to the world of J.R.R. Tolkien, creators J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay have assured fans ofLord of the Ringsthat the serieswill feel like a natural companion piece to the iconic fantasy tale.
“I just want to sort of quibble with the ‘vaguely connected.' We don’t feel that way,” they explained. “We feel like deep roots of this show are in the books and in Tolkien. And if we didn’t feel that way, we’d all be terrified to sit up here. We feel that this story isn’t ours. It’s a story we’re stewarding that was here before us and was waiting in those books to be on Earth. We don’t feel ‘vaguely connected.’ We feel deeply, deeply connected to those folks and work every day to even be closer connected. That’s really how we think about it.”
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Poweris scheduled to premiere onPrime Videoon July 30, 2025,with two episodes back-to-back.
