A new trailer forthe upcoming dramatic comedy,The Road Dog, has been released, and finds a struggling father connecting with his estranged son. Who wants to follow in his footsteps and become a stand-up comedian. Coming courtesy ofFreestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution division of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, has locked down rights toThe Road Dog, which drops audiences into the world of stand-up that stars veteran comic Doug Stanhope (The Man Show). The official synopsis forThe Road Dogreads as follows:

“The Road Dog tells the story of Jimmy Quinn, a veteran of stand-up comedy’s glory days; he is also an alcoholic. His life changes when his son David, who he abandoned as a child, shows up at his door, professing his desire to be a stand-up comedian.”

Co-written, directed and produced by Greg Glienna, whose 1992 indieMeet the Parentsserved as the basis for the same-name Uni comedy starring Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro,The Road Dogstars Doug Stanhope as Jimmy Quinn alongside newcomer Des Mulrooney, Khrystyne Haje (Scrambled, Law & Order), stand-up comedian and television writer/producer Greg Fitzsimmons (Crashing), Tim Kazurinsky (The Pack Podcast,thePolice Academyfilms), and Calvin Evans (South Side, Chicago P.D.).

The Road Dogtells the story of aging, alcoholic comedian Jimmy Quinn, with author, and award-winning actor, and brilliantstand-up comedian Doug Stanhope taking the lead. A veteran of stand-up comedy’s glory days (in both real-life and in the movie), Jimmy is left stunned when his long-estranged son, David (Mulrooney), also an aspiring comedian, seeks him out. Jimmy offers to take him on the road and show him the ropes. They begin to grow close, but tensions rise due to Jimmy’s self-destructive behavior. Ultimately, Jimmy must decide what he values most.

The Road Dogwas co-written by Tony Boswell, who produced the film alongside Glienna, Kamron Leal, Yasuein Paradise, Stanhope, and Brian Hennigan. The film’s deal was negotiated between Freestyle Digital Media, Glienna and his CEM Productions.

Recently finishing its weeklong theatrical engagement at Pickwick Theatre in Chicago,The Road Dogwill become available across North America on digital and platforms Amazon, iTunes, Google Play, YouTube Movies, and on demand beginning October 6th.
