Several new posters for the upcoming third season ofThe Umbrella Academytease the arrival of The Sparrow Academy, a mysterious, alternate version of the titular superhero team. Without giving too much away, each character poster gives us a glimpse of a member of The Sparrow Academy, with this no doubt equally unorthodox superhero squad certainly looking like they have tackled threats far more vicious than anything The Umbrella Academy has ever faced during theirNetflixrun.
Coming courtesy of the official Twitter account ofThe Sparrow Academy, these promos should have fans of the hugely popular Netflix series excited tomeet this mirror-image team.Played by Justin Cornwell, #1 is described as a charming, chiseled, colossus, who keeps the family together. Marcus is disciplined, rational and in control, and oozes confidence and leadership without ever having to raise his voice. A returning Justin H. Min stars as this variant version of Ben, now known as #2, but this is not the sweet Ben we know and love. Ben is now a Machiavellian tactician, wrapped up in a boy body which harbors a rumbling inner-squid.
The rest of the team includes Britne Oldford as #3, Fei, who comes across as a misanthrope who would rather be alone than spend even a second with you; Jake Epstein as #4, whose years of crime fighting have left his face and body with countless visual reminders of his battles; Genesis Rodriguez as #5, Sloane, a romantic and a dreamer who feels a higher cosmic calling leaving her eager to see the world and experience a life beyond her upbringing; and Cazzie David as #6, Jayme, a loner hidden under a hoodie who doesn’t say much because she doesn’t have to.
But by far the most intriguing member of The Sparrow Academy is Christopher, an Existential Dread Inducing Psykronium Cube. Also known as #7,Christopher is a telekinetic cube of unknown originwho can turn the room freezing cold and induce paralyzing fear. This cube acts as the Sparrows’ consulted oracle, handing out incredible advice and serving as the family mediator. Described as trustworthy and loyal, #7 is treated by the Sparrows like any other sibling, but is a force to be reckoned with. One of the more bizarre characters in an already pretty bizarre roster, Christopher is certainly one to watch.
Based on Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá’s Dark Horse comic book series of the same name,The Umbrella Academybegins in 1989, with a highly unusual occurrence wherein forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven of these mysterious babies are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist, who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his “children” to save the world.
The final moments of the second season found the Hargreeves siblings being thrown into an alternate timeline, coming face-to-face with a group of shadowy figures known as The Sparrow Academy. The ensemble cast ofThe Umbrella Academyseason 3 will once again be led byElliot Page,Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, and Aidan Gallagher as the titular family. Netflix has yet to announce a premiere date forThe Umbrella Academyseason 3. but it expected to launch sometime in 2022.
