With its second weekend in theaters, the Taika Waititi-directed feature has pulled in another $46 million at the domestic box office, firmly putting the film in the No. 1 spot. This collectively puts the fourthThorfilm at more than $233 million earned at United States and Canada theaters, and when we factor in overseas ticket sales, the film has a worldwide haul of $497 million and counting.
The animated sequelMinions: The Rise of Grulands at No. 2 with its third weekend in theaters. The film has garnered another $26 million to add to its domestic total of more than $262 million. That film had earned more than $532 million worldwide, continuing to build immense profits for the popularMinionsmovie franchise. It had previously opened to $107 million.
Meanwhile, the new releaseWhere the Crawdads Singfell into No. 3 with its premiere, though the movie did perform better than had been projected. With a fairly modest $24 million budget, the movie opened to $17 million at domestic theaters. The film, based on the book of the same name by Delia Owens, is directed by Olivia Newman and written by Lucy Alibar. The reviews have not been very kind as the movie ranks at 36% rotten at Rotten Tomatoes.

Where the Crawdads Sing Performed Better Than Expected
The tremendously successful sequelTop Gun: Maverickalso continues to fly high, bringing in $12 million to land at No. 4. That’s all just more millions to throw on the pile at this point as the film now has a domestic total of $617 million, and when factoring in its overseas ticket sales, it stands at $1.1 billion and counting. It is the highest-grossing film of Tom Cruise’s career and one of the highest-grossing movies of all time, having shattered many records with its release.
Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Presley biopicElvisrounds out the top five, garnering $7.6 million. The movie is up to $106 million in domestic theaters to account for its worldwide haul of more than $185 million. Tom Hanks stars in the acclaimed movie as Colonel Tom Parker, examining Presley’s rise through his manager’s point of view, though many reviews have offered particular praise to his co-star Austin Butler for his portrayal as the late “Blue Suede Shoes” singer.
