Tom Hardyhas signed on to star in the Vertigo Comics adaptation100 Bulletsfor New Line Cinema, according to a report fromHeat Vision Blog. This project will be the first for New Line since taking over the adaptations ofDC Comics' Vertigo imprint. The adaptation is already far into development, with Christopher Borrelli (The Vatican Tapes) writing the screenplay.

The originalcomic book, created by Brian Azzarello andEduardo Risso, centers on a special agent named Graves, who has a bizarre way of helping people. He approaches them with a picture of the person who ruined their lives, a gun, and 100 Bullets of ammunition that cannot be traced. The comic book series ran for, appropriately, 100 issues, between 1999 and 2009. No specific details were given regarding the adaptation’s plot, but it is expected to stay true to the comics.

The news comes just a few months afterTom Hardyteased that he “has something cooking” with DC, hinting that it could be either a movie or a TV series. While he would’t divulge the exact identity of the project, he called it “prime real estate” that is just “sitting under everybody’s noses.” We’re pretty sure this project is what he was referring to. It certainly fits the bill.

New Line is also developingSandmanthrough the Vertigo comics label, but that project was inherited from Warner Bros., with100 Bulletsset to be the first project they adapt from scratch.David S. Goyerwas previously developing a movie adaptation based on this comic, andAkiva Goldsmanalso developed it as a TV series for Showtime, but neither project got off the ground. 100 Bullets doesn’t have a director attached at this time, but withTom Hardycoming aboard, that could change soon. The star is also producing with his Hardy Son & Baker partner Dean Baker.

Tom Hardyrecently starred in thebox officeblockbusterMad Max: Fury Road, and he will next be seen inThe Revenant, opening onChristmas Day. Are you looking forward to seeing what he can do with 100 Bullets? Let us know what you think and stay tuned for more updates as this project moves forward.
