While this month’sVenom: The Last Dancehas been called the final outing forTom Hardyas the beloved Marvel character in the Sony Spider-Man Universe, the actor seemingly teases otherwise, suggesting that he could return in the future. And in aVenommovie that would surely please fans. Speaking recently withThe WrapalongsideVenom 3director Kelly Marcel, both Hardy and the filmmaker reveal that they have discussed one day coming back for an R-rated adventure in the vein of the critically acclaimed 2017 X-Men movie,Logan.

Hardy replied “Oh yeah!” when asked if he had ever thought of making a dark and grittyVenommovie, with Marcel adding, “We’re desperate to do that! Desperate!”Loganis now known as the pinnacle of R-rated comic book legacy movies, and many have taken issue with theVenomfranchise being far too shy with the blood and violence. Hardy then revealed that they had already “envisioned” such a project…

Still from Venom - The Last Dance.

“We’ve already got that. We envisioned that on “Venom 2.” We’re already there. We’re quick as well. It’s like we’ve got four or five movies already on the side, in different tones, with multiple characters. If you ask us to do something. We’re not shy, but we have to edit down to what the mission statement is. We’re both busy heads. If we say we’re going to do something, we mean it.”

Could Tom Hardy Return in a Few Years for an R-Rated Venom Movie?

While this may seem like a mixed message consideringVenom: The Last Dancehas been marketed as, and ends with the suggestion, that it is Tom Hardy’s last hurrah, there are other ways that theVenomfranchise could continue. The symbiote bonds with various characters in the pages of Marvel Comics, with Hardy perhaps working behind the camera on a futureLogan-esque movie, whileVenom 3does,SPOILER ALERT, hint thatVenom may still be around after all. Of course,Logantakes place years after the mainX-Menseries, following an aged version of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. So, maybe, Hardy will wait a few years before making an R-rated comeback.

Hardy has hinted thatthings are not over for Venom, saying, “I don’t think it’s over for Venom. There’s so much to do with him.” While Kelly Marcel has revealed thatthe franchise could continuewith other “symbiote stories.”

“This is just the introduction to Knull. He’s a massive, massive character so you can never be one-and-done with him. This is just a little taster of Knull. We get to meet him. What the future holds for him, who knows. The plot for Eddie and Venom closes here. But as you know, there are lots of symbiote stories in the canon. There are lots of places to go, and maybe there are a few Easter eggs in here that might start that journey off.”
