This Sunday, the small screen will be dominated by theSuper Bowl, but next weekend, the undead will take over whenThe Walking Deadreturns with the back half ofSeason 6. To get fans ready for themidseason premiere,AMChas released a new preview, where several cast and crew members tease what’s next for Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and the rest of his survivors in Alexandria. What’s most intriguing isNorman Reedus(Daryl Dixon) reveals that there will be another major death beforeSeason 6comes to a close.
This falls in line with an interviewNorman Reedusgave last month, where he hinted at a “big fight.” We also hear from Glenn (Steven Yeun), who almost died in the first half of the season, along with Melissa Suzanne McBride (Carol),Ross Marquand(Aaron),Sonequa Martin-Green(Sasha),Christian Serratos(Rosita),Danai GuriraandAndrew Lincoln, who teases that the show is getting to a part inRobert Kirkman’s comic book that he’s been looking forward to. Of course, as many fans know, he’s referring to the emergence of the villain Negan.
While we won’t see this villain in the flesh until the end of the season, we saw in the midseason prologue that Daryl, Sasha and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) encounter a group of Negan’s Saviors. We reported in November thatJeffrey Dean Morganhas been cast as Negan, who will be introduced inThe Walking Dead Season 6finale, before becoming a series regular inThe Walking Dead Season 7. Negan’s arrival may be a sign that a beloved character will be killed off soon, but we’ll have to wait until theSeason 6finale to find out for sure.
Negan is introduced in the 100th issue ofThe Walking Dead, where he and his group took Rick and the Alexandrians by surprise, before choosing a random person to kill, Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun). After we saw Glenn fall into a zombie herd with Nicholas (Michael Traynor) in this season’s third episodeThank You, his fate was unclear, but we found out a few weeks later inHeads Upthat he managed to escape alive, as he began his journey back to Alexandria with Enid (Katelyn Nacon). Towards the end of November’s mid-season finale,Start To Finish, we saw both Glenn and Enid scaling a tree near one of the Alexandria walls, although it’s possible that Glenn doesn’t reunite with Maggie and the rest of the group right away.
When we last sawRickand his small group of Alexandria survivors, they had covered themselves in zombie guts and were trying to make a break from the overtaken community. Of course, we don’t know where exactly they are heading to, but it’s been rumored that they will visit the Hilltop Colony, which was first mentioned in Issue 92 of theRobert Kirkmancomics, just eight issues before Negan’s introduction. Who do you think Rick, Daryl and the rest of these survivors will fight with? Check out this new preview and chime in with your theories as we get closer to themidseasonpremiere on Valentine’s Day.
