The Following Contains Spoilers for Wednesday Season 2, Part 1

InWednesdaySeason 1, creatorsAlfred Goughand Miles Millar explored what it would be like if the titular goth girl had a love interest. The results were mixed, to say the least, as perhaps no other character was as divisive than that of Xavier Thorpe, Nevermore’s resident psychic student who took a romantic shine to Wednesday Addams. Some thought his intentions were sweet, while others felt he went too far over the line and became possessive. No matter your feelings, it now appears as if we’ve seen the last of him, according to Gough.

Speaking withTVLine, Gough confirmed that Xavier’s time at Nevermore has come to an end. Portrayed by actor Percy Hynes White, he told the outlet that yes, “we have seen the last of him,” and that the character is now “at a boarding school we mentioned in Season 1, Reichenbach, which is like the European version of Nevermore.” That’s good news for some, and disappointing for others, but in the end, it’s probably for the best. Let’s face it, Wednesday isn’t cut out for romance at this stage in her life. As Gough put it:

“Wednesday went down the path of romance sort of reluctantly in Season 1, and she paid the price for that, so she’s closing the door on that avenue of her adolescence for the time being.”

Xavier’s exit was briefly addressed in Season 2, as his departure was marked by a gift of a red-eyed raven he painted. Ever a romantic artist, he left a note calling it his “goodbye gift,” and that he feels the image is connected to her in some way. “Who’s Wednesday Addams without a mystery to solve,” the note concludes. All in all, it was a good way to address his disappearance from the series, as it leaves uswith yet another question to ponder.

Have Fan’s Hopes for a Romantic Relationship Been Completely Dashed?

Before the start ofWednesdaySeason 2, Gough, star Jenna Ortega, and pretty much everyone else on the call sheet revealed that, going forward, the series would ditch the romanceand lean more into its horror roots. Thus far, they’ve certainly delivered on that promise, but does that mean all hopes of a romantic relationship in the series have been dashed?

Not so fast, said Gough. There’s still Hunter Doohan’s character of Tyler Galpin to contend with. While he and Wednesday are far from being an item, the creator mentioned that when the two are together “sparks always fly,” adding:

“There’s something unspoken between them. We love to see them together and to explore that dynamic. Both Tyler and Jenna play it so brilliantly, and there’s a lot that’s unsaid in those scenes.”

Of course, with Tyler’s Hyde persona tossing Wednesday out of a window at the end of Season 2, Part 1, it’s clear that whatever romantic path the duo might be on is a bumpy one, to say the least. We won’t hold our breath for a positive resolution, because in the world of Wednesday Addams, happy endings are something best left to fairy tales.
