FilmmakerWerner Herzog, who played The Client in the first season ofThe Mandalorian, thinksStar Warspresents a new way to understand humans' role in the universe and that the mythology of the franchise is really important. The universe created by George Lucas has proven to be one of the most vast and complex in the world of cinema. More than 45 years have passed since the release of the first film, and stories continue to emerge that explore new worlds, characters, plots, or even give a new approach to elements already presented in the past. And Lucasfilm and Disney have no plans to stop developing projects related to it.
However, many criticize the urge to continue tellingStar Warsstories, and some no longer consider the saga to be as good as it was in the past. ButWerner Herzogis not one of them. Speaking withEmpire Magazine, the German actor and filmmaker reflected on the importance ofStar Warsnot only in the film industry, but also in culture in general, while recalling why Jon Favreau first reached out to him:

“Jon Favreau was deeply moved by my films. Once he made a remark that he wanted many, many people to know the face of the man who made all these films that he likes. We should not dismiss Star Wars: they are new mythologies and a new way of seeing our role in the universe.”
Herzog is more than an important figure in the world of film and television. As a director he has crafted several unique cinematic experiences such asAguirre: The Wrath of God,Fitzcarraldo,Nosferatu the Vampyre,The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser, orStroszek. As an actor, he has been part of the cast of very popular titles in addition toThe Mandalorian, such asWhat Dreams May Come,Jack Reacher,Parks and Recreation,Rick and Morty, andThe Simpsons.

Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios Were Forced to Announce Star Wars and MCU Projects Before They Were Ready
Disney reportedly pushed Lucasfilm and Marvel Studios to announce new projects that were far from being ready, leading to many being canceled.
The Future of Star Wars Has No Limits
As Herzog highlights, the mythology and world-building ofStar Warsis truly impressive, is possibly one of the aspects that makes the franchise most attractive, and is surely one of the main reasons why Disney bought Lucasfilm due to the possibility of creatingan almost unlimited number of projectsbased on its characters and plots.
However, there are some who think that the expansion of the mythology is something that has worked against the franchise. One of them is director Matthew Vaughn, who recently confessed that he would love to direct aStar Warsproject, as long as it issomething related to the Skywalkers, since he believes that it is the strong point of the saga and what Disney should focus on.
Much to Vaughn’s chagrin, it appears that the future ofStar Warslies far from its origins. The next titles in the saga will explore unknown territories. A clear example of this isThe Acolyte, one of the upcoming series that Disney+ will release, which will be the firstStar Warsstory set during the High Republic.
