It looks like the Ewoks are making a return inThe Rise of Skywalker. It had been rumored for a few months, but there seems to be official confirmation now. In honor of the Thanksgiving holiday and the upcoming movie’s release, Lucasfilm and Disney offered a new behind-the-scenes featurette, which begins with rehearsal footage fromA New Hopeas Harrison Ford struggles to remember his dialogue. From there, we are treated to a look at the past, present, and future of theStar Warsfranchise, including a look at one pretty famous character fromReturn of the Jedi.
Warwick Daviscan be spotted inThe Rise of Skywalkerfeaturette back in theReturn of the Jedidays and then in present-day as he’s in the iconic Wicket Widget Warrick costume, reaching for the mask. The Ewoks have been rumored ever since we saw the wreckage of the Death Star 2, and now it looks like we will seeWicket the Ewok, along with at least one more of the furry creatures from the forest moon of Endor.
Warwick Davis was recently asked whether or not he had a part inThe Rise of Skywalker. The actor has been a part of nearly all of the big screen projects sinceReturn of the Jediand would not reveal if he was in the movie, though he played coy when asked. While showing theEwoksagain might be something that a lot ofStar Warsfans don’t really want to see, there are more than a few that will be happy to know they’re still alive after all of this time. Plus, they may only have a small part.
As for how Wicket and the rest of the Ewoks are back, that is another question. When the first footage ofThe Rise of Skywalkerdropped, we saw wreckage from the Death Star 2 and many assumed it was located on theforest moon of Endor. However, that is not the case. We now know that the wreckage is actually on the ocean moon Kef Bir. Maybe the Ewoks will see the Millennium Falcon fly over their moon on the way to Kef Bir and that’ll be it. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Warwick Davis starred as Wicket inReturn of the Jediand then again in the made-for-TV moviesCaravan of Courage: An Ewok AdventureandEwoks: The Battle for Endor. The TV movies are not currently on Disney+, but they should be. It is unclear if Disney will be adding them at some point, though they should already be on there forStar Warsfans, along with theStar Wars Holiday Special. The holiday special will never happen, at least while George Lucas is still alive. you may check outThe Rise of Skywalkerfeaturette above, thanks to the Star Wars YouTube channel.
