For awhile now, it’s been believed that the iconic green ghost Slimer is returning in next summer’sGhostbustersremake. And if that’s true, he will be one of the very feworiginal charactersto appear in all three movies. Though, ifIMDB’s cast list for the movie is correct, we’re going to learn a lot more about the slime-oozing haint than fans may want. DirectorPaul Feigclaims these rumors are false.

In the originalGhostbustersand its one and only sequel,Slimernever says a word. And we don’t learn his backstory. That’s been threatened before, but fans have remained unanimous in the fact that they want Slimer to remain a mystery. He doesn’t need a prequel that describes how he was an obsessive over-eater with a mean streak. ButBloody Disgustingnoticed thatIMDBhad listed actor Dan Castellaneta as the voice of Slimer.

Ghostbusters

The site has since changed theirGhostbusters page, and now Dan Castellaneta, who voices Homer and Krusty the Clown onThe Simpsons, has had his credit changed toScared New Yorker. That seems like kind of an ambiguous character for such an iconic voice over artist. But if he is playing Slimer, they wouldn’t just hire the man behind Homer Simpson to offer a few grunts and groans, would they?

Paul Feighas been pretty forthcoming about his all-female Ghostbusters reboot, which starsKristen Wiig,Melissa McCarthy,Leslie JonesandKate McKinnon. He’s shared photos from the set, offered a look at the new costumes and weapons, and announced the original cast cameos as they came in to play their part. But it’s been stated in other rumors that Slimer is supposed to be one of the surprises in the movie. And whilePaul Feigdenies that Dan Castellaneta is giving this spooky apparition a voice, he never denies that the hot dog loving ghost is in the movie. So we can probably bet that he is.

Ghostbusters 2016

In fact,Bloody Disgustinghave it from three different sources close to the production that scenes involving Slimer were shot this past summer as the movie played out in front of cameras in Boston and New York City. While fans are ok with Slimer showing up, no one considered the fact that he’d be speaking his mind this time around. What do you think? Do you want to see Slimer get a little more depth as a character? Or do you not want to see him return at all? In the cartoon series, the ghost, who has become a mascot for theGhostbusters, speaks in gibberish but he never says any actual words.
