Ever since Suicide Squad hit theaters a few months ago there have been whispers and rumors that Warner Bros. was going to be moving ahead with a Harley Quinn spin-off movie, sinceMargot Robbiewas so beloved as the character. Now, the movie is full-steam ahead and it is going under the nameGotham City Sirens, as opposed to the previously rumored titleBirds of Prey. The movie is said to focus primarily on female villains from the DC Comics universe, but despite that,Will Smithstill wants in on the action.

Will Smithstarred alongsideMargot RobbieinSuicide Squadas Deadshot and in a recent interview withMTV, he made it very clear that he would love to be inGotham City Sirens. When asked about it directly,Will Smithwas not shy about his desire to star in the movie and more so, his love forMargot Robbieand desire to work with her again. Here is what he had to say.

“I’d definitely love to be in it. I love Margot Robbie. I would do like, anything she wants to do.”

Suicide Squadmade $745 million dollars worldwide despite that fact that it divided most fans and was critically panned. With that said,Margot Robbie’s portrayal of fan-favorite character Harley Quinn was easily one of the most beloved parts of the movie, butWill Smithas Deadshot wasn’t far behind. Withdirector David Ayerreturning forGotham City Sirens, it wouldn’t be all that surprising if he found a way to bring Deadshot into the fold. Especially since they both followed upSuicide Squadwith another collaboration in the form of the sci-fi/fantasy/action movieBrightfor Netflix. Warner Bros. probably would like to be able to put his name on the poster as well, so surely they would be behind it.

Gotham City Sirenswas a recent DC Comics title that focused on the trio of Harley Quinn, Catwoman andPoison Ivy(whoDavid Ayerrecently more or less confirmed would be the focus of the movie) working as a team to do their own bidding. It sounds like this new movie will be taking its cues from that book. As a movie, the project was basically willed into existence byMargot Robbie. After she landed the role of Harley Quinn inSuicide Squad, the actress reportedly did a deep dive into the comics to research her character, and during that process, she became interested in many of the otherDC female characters. She brought on an unidentified writer herself to develop the project, before taking the project to Warner Bros. The studio then quickly picked up the project and it was just announced thatDavid Ayerwould be directing and it has seemingly been put on the fast track.

Warner Bros. is also reportedly eyeing a potential spinoff movie for Deadshot, so it seems likeWill Smithis far from done with the DC Extended Universe at this point. He has already worked withMargot Robbietwice on bothSuicide SquadandFocus, so why not onGotham City Sirens? Maybe they can use the movie as a way to set up his solo spinoff. That runs the risk of muddying things up, but it is possible Warner Bros. is learning from their mistakes. A release date forGotham City Sirenshasn’t been set yet, but we will likely be learning new details sooner rather than later since the project is officially on its way to production and assumingWill Smithgets his way, he’ll be in it. Jared Leto asThe Joker, though? That’s a whole different story.
