Earlier today, we showed you newX-Men: Apocalypsephotos, which featured several mutants such asMystique(Jennifer Lawrence), Beast (Nicholas Hoult) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender). If those weren’t enough for you, then perhaps the latest set photo from directorBryan Singerwill do the trick. This image from the Montreal set features the director doing his best “air guitar” with what is assumed to be an Archangel prop. It’s possible that this object, which looks like part of the character’s wing, could be one of the super-sharp projectiles Archangel shoots from the forearms of his metallic suit in the comic books. But that has not been confirmed. This is the first time Archangel has been referred to by name, instead of Angel, although we don’t get to see the actor who portrays him,Ben Hardy, in this photo.

Most fans assumed that Angel, a character first confirmed with aconcept artimage that surfaced in March, would turn into Archangel, but this is the first time that has been confirmed. The director used the hashtag #archangel with this Instagram photo, which will hopefully lead to our first look atBen Hardyin costume as Archangel. It remains to be seen how much shooting is left onX-Men: Apocalypse, which has been shooting in Montreal since late April.

The story centers on the villainousApocalypse(Oscar Isaac), a 5,000-year-old mutant who is searching for hisFour Horsemen.Ben Hardy’s Archangel is one of the Horsemen, along withOlivia Munn’s Psylocke andAlexandra Shippas Storm. The final Horsemen is none other thanMichael Fassbender’s Magneto, who has been living a life of exile in Poland for the last 10 years, following the events ofX-Men: Days of Future Past.

After Professor Xavier (James McAvoy) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) discover Apocalypse’s plans, they recruit a new team of mutants such as Jean Grey (Sophie Turner), Jubilee (Lana Condor), Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) and Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee) to stop this nefarious threat. Professor X and Magneto have also become estranged in the 10 years that have passed sinceX-Men: Days of Future Past. What remains unclear at this point is where the franchise will go after this adventure, butBryan Singerdid confirm an intriguing rumor.

It was rumored thatBryan Singeris wanted to take the helm onThe Fantastic Four 2, which would then segue into a crossover with theX-Menfranchise. The director actually confirmed that there are plans for a crossover in the works, but it isn’t known when this project may actually come to fruition. While we wait for more details on the crossover, check out the latest set photo fromX-Men: Apocalypse.
