Production kicked off in Montreal yesterday on 20th Century Fox’sX-Men: Apocalypse, under the direction ofBryan Singer, which brings to a close the latestX-Mentrilogy that includesX-Men: First ClassandX-Men: Days of Future Past. Very little has been revealed about the story, but we know it is set in the year 1983 and centers on the younger stars ofX-Men: Days of Future Pastand the villainous mutant Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac). DirectorBryan Singerrecently shed more light on this superhero sequel, stating that this feels much different than previousX-Menmovies while teasing its epic scope.

“It’s a big monster of a movie. The stakes are so high and global and the villain
is so mythic. It’s definitely an X-Men movie, but it really feels different.”

The adventure will also feature a number of new actors, playing younger versions of iconic mutants.Alexandra Shippis playing the younger Storm, alongsideSophie Turneras Jean Grey,Tye Sheridanas Cyclops andKodi Smit-McPheeas Nightcrawler. Since we don’t know much about the story thus far, many have wondered if these younger actors will have major roles or just cameo appearances. ProducerSimon Kinbergoffered some new details on these characters, confirming that they will be a major part of the cast.

“They’re as much a part
of the movie as our main cast. Scott is not yet the squeaky-clean leader. Storm is
a troubled character who is going down the wrong path in life. And Jean is complex, interesting and not fully mature. It’s fun to see someone struggling with their powers when you know one day they’ll become the most powerful person in the world.”
