Last year’sX-Men: Days of Future Pastwas a game-changer for the entireX-Menfranchise, creating a new present-day timeline which included a resurrected Jean Grey (Famke Janssen) and a few other changes. The movie also created one of the most memorable superhero scenes in recent years, whereEvan Peters’Quicksilverused his incredible super-speed at the Pentagon. While promoting his new indie filmSafelight,Evan Petersteased that the upcomingX-Men: Apocalypse, currently shooting in Montreal, has a “bigger and better” Quicksilver scene.
“Well, yeah, it’s always difficult to try to top something like that. The special effects guys, man, they absolutely nailed that and did a fantastic job on it. This year we’re working on something that’s bigger and better, keeping the same elements that worked, then adding a few new ones. I’m really excited to see it all cut together, and I’m excited for people to see it, too. I think it’s going to be a really fun sequence in what is going to be a massiveX-Menmovie. The scope of it - with the end of the world and Apocalypse coming - is going to be a very large, epicX-Menfilm.”
Unfortunately, the actor wouldn’t spill any details about this “bigger and better” scene, but that isn’t too surprising since we know very little about the movie at all.Oscar Isaacplays the villainous Apocalypse, a 5,000-year-old mutant who is hellbent on destroying the world, but we’re not exactly sure why. The story is set in 1983, 10 years afterX-Men: Days of Future Past, with Apocalypse assembling his Four Horsement, Storm, (Alexandra Shipp, Angel (Ben Hardy), Psylocke (Olivia Munn) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender), who has been living a reclusive life in Poland after the events ofX-Men: Days of Future Past. WhileEvan Peterswouldn’t comment on the story, he did mention thatJennifer Lawrenceis “great” to work with.
“She’s great. All the cast is great. Everybody on set is just so nice, and so friendly and welcoming. We’re all this big family that’s stuck on this ginormous ship that is sailing slowly along. So I think everybody is incredibly nice, I’ll tell you that much.”
Evan Petersis joined byJames McAvoy(Professor X),Michael Fassbender(Magneto),Nicholas Hoult(Beast),Lucas Till(Havok), andRose Byrne(Moira MacTaggert), who reprise their roles fromX-Men: First ClassandX-Men: Apocalypse. There are also a slew of younger mutants joining the cast includeOscar Isaac’s Apocalypse,Ben Hardy(Angel),Olivia Munn(Psylocke),Lana Condor(Jubilee),Kodi Smit-McPhee(Nightcrawler) andTye Sheridan(Cyclops). It is believed thatX-Men: Apocalypsewill help set up the future of this lucrative franchise for these younger stars, but 20th Century Fox hasn’t confirmed what is next afterX-Men: Apocalypsehits theaters next year.
The studio hasDeadpoolandGambithitting theaters next year, which could tie into theX-Menfranchise at large. 20th Century Fox also hasX-Forcein development, but very little is known about that project, and when it might move forward.
