Zack Snydermay be building a much bigger franchise than his fans imagine withRebel MoonandArmy of the Dead, as the director reveals both cinematographic sagas share the same universe.

The fact that Snyder decided to leave behind the world of the great superhero franchises does not mean that he has moved away from creating big multiverses, and he keeps proving it. In 2021, the filmmaker releasedArmy of the Dead, the first film in a major action saga created exclusively for Netflix. That movie was followed by a spin-off prequel titledArmy of Thieves, released that same year, while another movie titledPlanet of the Deadis still in development. However, and an animated series titledArmy of the Dead: Lost Vegasseems to have fallen by the wayside according to Snyder’s recent update.

However, it is currently unclear how involved the director will be with these newest additions to the franchise, as he is currently focused onhis new space opera,Rebel Moon. This set to be yet another huge, sprawling universe instigated by Snyder, although it seems that they could well be more connected than anyone thought possible. Speaking with Total Film (viaGamesRadar), the director revealed that aRebel Mooncharacter was going to appear in the animated series they didn’t make, confirming both stories share a universe:

“Army of the Dead has a pretty vast mythology that never made it into the movie. There’s actually a character from Rebel Moon in the Army of the Dead animated series that we never did. At one point in the show, they go through a portal into another dimension, and there are characters in that other dimension that they come across. In Rebel Moon, they’re in this bar, and one of the aliens is one of the characters from the animatic. So it’s definitely a shared universe.”

Although the possibility of theArmy of the Deaduniverse continuing to expand in the future hasn’t been ruled out, there is no doubt that all of Snyder and Netflix’s energies are focused onRebel Moonand everything that theStar-Wars-like universe can offer.

Considering that Snyder originally createdRebel Moonas part of the Lucasfilm franchise, it’s clear that the mythology behind the story is huge, and includes a large number of characters and settings that would allow them to explore many different stories in the future. In fact, there are twoRebel Moonmovies coming out, a comic book series, video games andeven an animated show, as the director recently confirmed.
