Earlier this week, a rumor surfaced that Warner Bros. wantsBatman v Superman: Dawn of JusticedirectorZack Snyderto add more ofBen Affleck’sBatman, while taking out some scenes withHenry Cavill’sSuperman. Since this project was originally set to be a sequel to 2013’sMan of Steel, the news surprised some fans. During an interview withThe Daily Beast,Zack Snyderconfirmed that there will be moreBatmantowards the beginning, but it will eventually “even out.” Here’s what he had to say, when asked about the rumor.
“Only in that because it’s a differentBatmanthan theBatmanthat was in theChristopher Nolanmovies, so we have a little bit more explaining to do-and you just had a wholeSupermanmovie. But I think only in that way, because you need to understand whereBatmanis with everything. And that’s more toward the beginning, but it evens back out as it goes on.”

It was confirmed over Comic-Con thatBatman’s home city of Gotham is a neighboring city toSuperman’s Metropolis. The epic battle at the end ofMan of Steeldestroyed Wayne Tower, which is, in part, how this conflict between these iconic superheroes gets started.Zack Snydergoes onto breaks down the heroes' philosophical differences.
“They’re actually opposite sides of the same coin. It’s interesting becauseBatman’s a man and Superman’s a god, if you think about it in those terms. So their relationship is very contentious. WhatSupermansees asBatman’s limits,Batmansees as Superman trying to control him, acting like an absolute dictator. What we went after was the humanity of each character. We tried to say, ‘What wouldBatmanhave to do to unravel Superman, and what would Superman have to do to unravelBatman?’ Their conflict is based on each others' understanding of the other’s weakness. The fun of that is when you’re dealing with these mythological creatures-to make them human again, bring them back to earth. And to do that you have to know the rules before you can break them. They have to go all the way to the stratosphere before you can bring them back down.”

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice kicks off what will be the start of a massive cinematic universe for Warner Bros.' DC Comics movies, includingSuicide Squad,Wonder Womanand a two-partJustice Leagueadventure. This cinematic universe seems to be following the same type of model set forth byMarvel, but the director revealed this cinematic universe is different, comparing these heroes to “mythological” entities. He also gave credit toChristopher Nolanfor setting the stage for this DC Universe to happen, while playfully dissingMarvel’s latest adventure.
“It’s a tricky process, setting up the DC universe, or Justice League. The credit goes to Chris Nolan because he set the die for the DC Universe in a great way that I tried to emulate. I look at it as more being mythological than, say, bubblegum. And I think that that’s appropriate forBatmanand Superman because they’re the most mythological of our superheroes. It goes to the mythological nature of the movies that we’re making. I feel likeBatmanand Superman are transcendent of superhero movies in a way, because they’reBatmanand Superman. They’re not just, like, the flavor of the weekAnt-Man-not to be mean, but whatever it is. What is the next Blank-Man?”
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justicewill also set upJustice League Part 1andJustice League Part 2, arriving in 2017 and 2019, respectively, both of which will be directed byZack Snyder.
